At Behruz Studio runs many in-house exhibitions through out the year. We also feature online exhibitions exlusive to Behruz Studio, including our extensive Gabbeh collection.
There is little known or documented about the history of the gabbeh. The West first became aware of gabbehs in the early 1970s, when a collection of lion rugs including gabbehs from the province of Fars in southern Iran was exhibited in several cities in the United States, Europe and Australia, and a catalogue was published.
Introducing Other Worlds.
Melbourne collector Russell Howard has been collecting Lao textiles for over 20 years. He has made numerous trips to northeast Laos and Vietnam between 1993 and 2004 to locate the sources of these textiles which first appeared in the markets of Thailand in the early 1980's, well before these areas were open to westerners. The recognition and description of these textile traditions is based on his observations there and differs from that found in the literature.
